WellPoint Announces Appearance at 2nd Annual Medicaid Managed Care Summit

   2009 MAR 9 -- WellPoint (NYSE:WLP) announced that Kevin Hayden, president of State Sponsored Business, will appear at the 2nd Annual Medicaid Managed Care Summit on Wednesday, Feb. 25 and Thursday, Feb. 26 in Washington, DC. The conference is scheduled to convene over 150 delegates from state and government agencies and health care plans to discuss timely and relative issues facing Medicaid today.

   As chairman for the first day of this two-day conference, Mr. Hayden will deliver a key note welcome address on Wednesday morning, followed by a presentation Thursday at noon entitled "Declining State Economies: How to Maintain Quality Care." In his presentation, Mr. Hayden will discuss the emerging trends in Medicaid, the challenges given the budget shortfalls facing many states, and solutions WellPoint has implemented to help improve the quality of health for their members.

   At WellPoint Mr. Hayden is responsible for leading WellPoint's Medicaid business division which currently serves nearly 1.8 million members in 11 states.

   Mr. Hayden's career spans more than 23 years in the private and public sectors. Prior to joining WellPoint, Mr. Hayden served as Secretary of the Department of Health and Family Services for the State of Wisconsin and was responsible for leading all public health and care delivery services for over 900,000 residents. Prior to that he served as the Wisconsin State Medicaid Director. Most notably, Mr. Hayden was a key architect in creating Badgercare Plus, an innovative program expanding coverage to all children in Wisconsin.
