2005 MAY 16 -- With a record 4500 participants from Europe, the U.S. and Asia, the 40th Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of the Liver (EASL) was marked by a series of significant reports on the treatment of hepatic disease and new knowledge that has come to light in this field.
The prevalence of infections caused by hepatitis viruses B and C is greater than originally thought. In France, 0.7% of the population suffers from a chronic hepatitis virus B (HVB) infection, while 1% suffers from a chronic hepatitis virus C (HVC) infection, which represents a combined total of one million cases of chronic viral hepatitis.
