Research on hemangioblastoma described by R.I. Riesenburger and colleagues
2009 JUN 9 - (NewsRx.com) -- According to a study from the United States, "To our knowledge, there are currently no published reports that describe the postoperative evolution of abnormal blood vessels associated with spinal nerve root hemangioblastomas. We present a patient with a hemangioblastoma that was completely resected." "Follow-up imaging revealed complete resolution of the abnormal blood vessels. We hypothesize that complete resection of spinal nerve root hemangioblastomas eliminates the venous hypertension and allows for regression of the dilated vascular network," wrote R.I. Riesenburger and colleagues. The researchers concluded: "Persistent dilated vessels should be followed closely for residual tumors." Riesenburger and colleagues published their study in Southern Medical Journal (Postoperative Resolution of Abnormal Blood Vessels Related to a Nerve Root Hemangioblastoma. Southern Medical Journal, 2009;102(4):408-410). For more information, contact C.A. David, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805, USA.
