Simian immunodeficiency virus SIVcpz evolution and transmission routes explored

According to recent research from Netherlands, "Current data suggest that the human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) epidemic arose by transmission of simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) SIVcpz from a subspecies of common chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes troglodytes) to humans.
