Herpesvirus 6 May Hold Answers to AIDS Progression

Understanding the immunopathogenic role of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) in the course of HIV infection may shed new light on the complex mechanisms of disease progression in AIDS, according to noted AIDS researchers Robert C. Gallo and Paolo Lusso.

"Although intriguing, the data accumulated thus far are insufficient to prove definitively the role of HHV-6 in AIDS," Lusso and Gallo wrote ("Human Herpesvirus 6 in AIDS," Immunology Today, February 1995;16(2):67-70).
