"Induction of HIV-1 by IL-2: In Vivo and In Vitro Analysis."

According to an abstract presented by the authors to the 2nd National Conference on Human Retroviruses and Related Infections, held January 29 - February 2, 1995, in Washington, DC, "Interleukin-2 (IL-2) is a T-cell derived cytokine with potent effects on T-cell, B-cell and NK-cell activation proliferation and differentiation. Prior studies in vitro have demonstrated that IL-2 can enhance the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), however these effects have only been reported in the setting of IL-2 in combination with other stimuli such as PHA/PMA. In a series of 20 patients with CD4 counts above 200, IL-2 was administered as a continuous infusion over 5 days every 8 weeks. ...
