Single Mutation Gives HIV Resistance to AZT, ddI, ddC, and 3TC
Published in AIDS Weekly, April 24th, 1995
The mutation - the substitution of lysine for arginine at amino-acid position 65 (abbreviated K65R) - does not significantly impair reverse transcriptase function.
HIV reproduces via the process of reverse transcription, when the viral RNA genome is converted to double-stranded DNA by the viral enzyme known as reverse transcriptase.
