Inhibitors of Reverse Transcription

Researchers from France stated they have shown that chimeric (alpha)(beta) oligonucleotides can inhibit reverse transcription.

Claudine Boiziau, INSERM, Bordeaux, France, and colleagues said that they synthesized alpha-beta chimeric 17-mer oligodeoxyribonucleotides that contained either 5, 10 or 15 beta nucleotides ("Chimeric Alpha-Beta Oligonucleotides As Antisense Inhibitors of Reverse Transcription," FEBS Letters, March 13, 1995;361(1):41-45).

"The stability of the RNA/chimera hybrids was only slightly affected by the alpha stretch and by the alpha-beta link, as was the affinity of the Moloney murine leukemia virus reverse (MoMLV) transcriptase...
