Treatment of KS with Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Evaluated

Researchers evaluated the effects of Interleukin-1 (IL-1) and Interleukin-1 receptor antagonist (IL-1ra) on AIDS-Kaposi's sarcoma (AIDS-KS).

Previous research has suggested that HIV-1 may induce KS directly through viral protein(s) or indirectly through regulation of cytokine such as IL-1 and IL-6. The possibility exists that HIV can induce cytokine production (IL-1), which can then act as a paracrine factor for AIDS-KS cells.
