CMV Significant Risk Factor for MAC in HIV+

A diagnosis of cytomegalovirus is an important risk factor for Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) disease in people with AIDS, and MAC is also a risk factor for subsequent cytomegalovirus disease, according to a report from Baltimore's John's Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health.

Disseminated nontuberculous mycobacteriosis was uncommon in the United States prior to the AIDS epidemic, but since that time there has been a dramatic increase in disease incidence.
