Thailand Suffering from Fear of AIDS Patients; World Conference This Fall

Thailand may be suffering from rising intolerance toward those who have HIV.

Thailand is second only to India in Asia in terms of the number of carriers of HIV. The latest official statistics estimate that Thailand now has 700,000 people who are HIV positive while 24,000 have AIDS.

But since a grenade was lobbed during May 1995 into an AIDS counselling center in the outskirts of Bangkok, Thailand, health activists have been worried that any gains they have made toward more understanding about the illness are in danger of being eroded.
