"Cell Targeting and Uptake of Antisense Oligonucleotides Encapsulated in Immunoliposomes."

Published in AIDS Weekly, July 10th, 1995

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the NATO Advanced Studies Institute symposium entitled Targeting of Drugs: Strategies for Oligonucleotide and Gene Delivery in Therapy, held June 24 - July 5, 1995, in Cape Sounion Beach, Greece, "Antisense oligonucleotides can potentially inhibit the expression of virus-specific proteins while leaving host protein expression intact. However, native (phosphodiester) antisense oligonucleotides have little pharmacological activity since they are rapidly degraded in biological milieu and poorly taken up by cells.
