"Differences in Leukocyte Enzyme Activity in HIV-1+ Patients With and Without TB."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 47th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry, held July 16-20, 1995, in Anaheim, California, "Patients who are HIV-1+ are at risk for infection with mycobacterium tuberculosis (TB). If a screening test could be developed for TB infection, resultant morbidity and mortality might be reduced. Using fluorogenic reagents with amino acid or polypeptide moieties to confer specificity, we have measured enzymatic activities of WBC by flow cytometry and have previously shown (Clin Chem 1993; 39:1158) differences in the WBC protease activities between patients infected with HIV-1 and normals.
