Committee Approves AIDS and Cancer Research

The Senate Appropriations Committee approved funding to combat diseases such as breast cancer, AIDS and HIV, at the urging of U.S. Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pennsylvania).

This funding is included in the Department of Defense fiscal year 1996 appropriations bill.

"Our troops are already putting their lives on the line, they should not have to face the threat of terminal illness. These deadly diseases pose a grave threat to our troops and the world population. Understanding and treating these diseases is of the utmost importance in protecting our troops," Senator Specter said.
