According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 8th International Congress of Mucosal Immunology, held July 17-20, 1995, in San Diego, California, "To contain dissemination of HIV from the genital mucosa to the draining lymph nodes, it may be advantageous to the host to mount a virus-specific cytotoxic T-lymphocyte (CTL) response at the mucosal epithelium and the draining lymph nodes (LN's).
