New Technology for Evaluating Drug Susceptibility Needed

The development of new technologies to rapidly diagnose tuberculosis and identify patterns of drug susceptibility in immunocompromised HIV infected persons is critical, according to the director of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Division of Tuberculosis Elimination.

Writing in a supplemental issue of Clinical Infectious Diseases, Ken Castro noted that new technologies for identifying latent tuberculosis among HIV positive and other immunocompromised persons are also needed.
