According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Conference on Global Lung Health and the 1995 Annual Meeting of the IUATLD/UICTMR, held September 9-12, 1995, in Paris, France, "According to the criteria adopted by WHO and CDC (USA), 576 subjects (95%) of 608 cases of tuberculosis with HIV infection notified from Jan. 1989 to Aug. 1994 in RS presented clinical features compatible with AIDS. Those included pulmonary (56%), extrapulmonary (34.5%) and disseminated (9.5%) forms of TB. The sputum smear was positive in 172 of the 342 pulmonary TB patients.
