AIDS Increasing Among African-Americans

AIDS is exacting a growing toll on African-Americans. The virus is now responsible for a third of all deaths among black men ages 25 to 44, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said.

AIDS also accounts for about a fifth of the deaths among African-American women in the same age range - a higher proportion than among young white men, the CDC said.

The CDC report is the latest to demonstrate changes in the epidemic since the first cases were reported 15 years ago among gay white men.
