According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 3rd Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections, held January 28 - February 1, 1996, in Washington, DC, "Introduction: HIV-1 infected transfusion recipients (recips) are useful for studying heterosexual HIV-1 transmission, as the duration of infection is known and confounding risk behaviors are rare.
