HBV Vaccine Natural Placebo for HIV Trials

Hepatitis B vaccine would be a natural placebo arm in large-scale HIV vaccine trials, according to a report from Thailand.

A hepatitis B vaccine trial conducted in that country suggests that commercial sex workers and men being treated for sexually transmitted diseases would be good cohorts for HIV vaccine trials.

Researcher Chris Beyrer and colleagues found, however, that men recently released from the army did not respond favorably to the HBV vaccine program, suggesting that they would not make a good HIV vaccine cohort.
