Group Lobbies Against Animal Transplants

Doctors and lawyers launched an international campaign against transplanting animal organs into human beings.

The group, Doctors and Lawyers for Responsible Medicine, which includes 122 doctors and lawyers, is an expansion of another organization, Doctors in Britain Against Animal Experiments. They said it would lobby for laws restricting experiments in such operations, known as xenotransplants.

"There is an urgent need to put transgenic transplants on hold until valid scientific research establishes the truth about xenotransplantation," the group based in London, United Kingdom (U.K.), said in a statement.
