Babies, Prostitutes Offer AIDS Research Clue

Any truly effective therapy for AIDS is a long way off, a leading expert on the disease said.

Drugs tested so far have been disappointing, but research hope is offered by infants and prostitutes who seem to have some natural immunity, Dr. Lowell Young of the Kuzell Institute at California Pacific Medical Centre in San Francisco, California said.

Drugs that treat diseases such as pneumonia or tuberculosis that develop as a part of AIDS also held out promise, Young told doctors at the European Congress of Antimicrobial Chemotherapy.
