Rigid Storage May Not Be Needed for HIV-1 and HCV Samples

HIV-1 RNA and hepatitis C virus RNA are stable in human plasma, suggesting that rigid transport and storage conditions for samples may not be necessary, according to a report from Boston Biomedica of Rockville, Maryland.

The report was presented at the 96th General Meeting of the American Society for Microbiology, held May 19-23, 1996 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The stability of viral RNA targeted in nucleic acid-based detection methods is an important consideration for the transport and storage of samples to be tested by these methods.
