U.S. Pledged $100 Million for Development Research

The U.S. government has pledged $100 million to help develop topical microbicides that would help women protect themselves from HIV.

The goal is to create alternatives to condoms that women can use - especially creams that protect against HIV but would still allow them to get pregnant. The information was reported at the 11th International Conference on AIDS, held in Vancouver, British Columbia, July 7-12, 1996.
