Treatment May Cause Only Transient Interruption of HIV Infection

A team of German researchers thinks that "complex events occurring in HIV-1 infection ... are only temporarily disturbed by current chemotherapeutic strategies."

Dr. Hans-Jurgen Stellbrink and colleagues from Hamberg "argue for a rapid resumption of virus production and lymphocyte turnover during treatment." Stellbrink's group investigated the short-term kinetics of viral plasma HIV RNA and CD4+ T-cell concentrations in ten HIV positive patients (AIDS 1996;10:849-857).
