"The Evaluation of Probe Hybridization Method Used for the Large Scale Screen of the Distribution of HIV in Uganda."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 11th International Conference on AIDS, held July 7-12, 1996, in Vancouver, British Columbia, "Objective: To develop a method for large-scale HIV-1 genetic study in Uganda using DNA probe hybridization. Methods: To date over 1200 HIV-1 seropositive specimens have been collected. We have developed a screening method for large-scale study of HIV-1 genetic variation based on DNA probe hybridization. Nested PCR amplifications were performed to generate a 345 base pair fragment of the HIV-1 env C2V3 region and also a 384 bp fragment of the env gp41 encompassing the immunodominant domain.
