HIV Status of TB Patients Must Be Known

Better efforts must be made to determine the HIV status of tuberculosis patients in the United States, according to a U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) report.

"The resurgence of tuberculosis in the United States and the problem of multidrug resistance has been linked to the HIV epidemic," the CDC's Eugene McCray said during a presentation given at the XI International Conference on AIDS, held July 7-12, 1996 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
