Molecular Shape of Protein Envelope Determined

Using X-ray crystallography, researchers have determined the molecular shape of the HIV protein envelope.

The results of a multicenter team of researchers, lead by Dr. Michael Rossmann of Purdue University, are reported in the current issue of Nature Structural Biology (Nat Struc Biol 1996;3:763-770). This information has provided insights that may help in the design of drugs to block the HIV infection process by interfering with the HIV protein envelope.
