"The M184V Substitution when Combined with Other Substitutions in HIV-1 RT Has Different Effects on RT in Regard to Nucleoside Triphosphate Inhibitor in Endogenous Reactions."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 1996 meeting on Retroviruses, sponsored by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, held May 21-26, 1996, in Cold Spring Harbor, New York, "Resistance of HIV-1 reverse transcriptase (RT) to nucleoside analogs (e.g., AZT, ddC and 3TC) is conferred by different amino acid substitutions or by combinations thereof in RT. It has been reported that the M1 84V mutation, when introduced into RT against a background of AZT resistance conferred by the M41L and T215Y mutation, can restore sensitivity to the latter drug.
