According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 36th Interscience Conference on Antimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, held September 15-18, 1996, in New Orleans, Louisiana, "Introduction: PCR has been developed for the detection of microsporidian DNA in different biological samples. The aim of this study was to affirm the accuracy of PCR for microsporidian DNA in gastrointestinal biopsies for the diagnosis of intestinal microsporidiosis in a large number of HIV infected patients.
