Emory Patent for Epivir Claimed To Be Invalid

Biochem Pharma Inc., Laval, Quebec, Canada, filed a response to a patent infringement suit brought by Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia. According to a company statement:

BioChem Pharma discovered Epivir/3TC (lamivudine) for the treatment of HIV/AIDS. Dr. Francesco Bellini, BioChem Pharma, welcomed the opportunity to have the patent issue settled through the U.S. legal system. "The federal courts provide us with the appropriate forum to finally put to rest Emory University's baseless claims to 3TC.
