Patented Procedure Could Help HIV Patients

Scientists at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF), Oklahoma, have developed a patented use for a drug that should eliminate the threat of HIV in blood transfusions and might be effective in treating HIV infected patients.

The foundation received a U.S. patent for a process to introduce Methylene Blue into bags used to collect and store blood donations, Dr. William G. Thurman, OMRF, said.
