Church Leaders Oppose Proposal To Give Prisoners Condoms

The Bahamas Christian Council has come out against a proposal to give prison inmates condoms to control the spread of HIV.

The council, comprised of leaders of all Christian denominations in Nassau, Bahamas, has a list of alternatives for the government to consider.

The council recommended that Her Majesty's Prison hire more social workers and appoint an assistant chaplain to give prisoners spiritual guidance. The prison only has one chaplain.

Church leaders have also advocated hiring more prison guards to protect inmates from "abuses by aggressive sexual inmates."
