Loss of Hematopoietic Cells in HIV Patients Is Not Due to Infection

Mechanisms leading to hematologic abnormalities in HIV-1 infection are unclear and may involve multiple factors, noted Aliette Marandin, Hopital St. Louis, Paris, France, and colleagues ("Loss of Primitive Hematopoietic Progenitors in Patients with Human Immunodeficiency Virus Infection," Blood, December 15, 1996;88:4568-4578).
