According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Ninth Symposium on HIV Infection entitled From Virology ... To Therapy, held March 6-8, 1997, in Toulon, France, "MxA protein is an IFN-(alpha)-induced antiviral protein of human cells located in cytoplasm of monocytes and to a lesser extent in lymphocytes. It has been reported that the MxA protein concentration was significantly higher in blood from HIV-1 positive patients and increased levels were observed during advanced HIV disease.
