According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Ninth Symposium on HIV Infection entitled From Virology ... To Therapy, held March 6-8, 1997, in Toulon, France, "Objective: To evaluate the effects of long-term suppressive anti-Cytomegalovirus (CMV) antiviral treatment on disease progression and survival of patients (p) with AIDS and CMV retinitis. Patients and Methods: Six AIDS p out of 522 followed by our Department since 1985 (3 males and 3 females, aged 28 to 45 years), were treated continuatively with ganciclovir and/or foscarnet at currently recommended dosages for both acute-phase and maintenance therapy of CMV retinitis, for a time longer than 15 months...
