Dr. Luc Montagnier Initiating AIDS Research Centers in South Africa and New York

Dr. Luc Montagnier, the French co-discoverer of the AIDS virus, plans to expand his AIDS research efforts to both South Africa and in the United States, a member of his laboratory confirmed to AIDS Weekly Plus.

According to an article by Dawn Blalock in the April 18, 1997, edition of The Mail & Guardian, Montagnier is considering sites in South Africa for a proposed AIDS research center. He foresees a "network of AIDS research centers" to fight the virus in Southern Africa, where treatment, for all practical purposes, is non-existent.
