According to an article by Dawn Blalock in the April 18, 1997, edition of The Mail & Guardian, Montagnier is considering sites in South Africa for a proposed AIDS research center. He foresees a "network of AIDS research centers" to fight the virus in Southern Africa, where treatment, for all practical purposes, is non-existent.
