UNAIDS Urges Condoms, Syringes, and Bleach in Prisons

Bleach, syringes, and condoms should be made available in prisons throughout the world to try to curb the alarming spread of HIV among inmates, the United Nations said.

A U.N. agency that coordinates the AIDS prevention work -- UNAIDS -- urged prison authorities to put aside objections to sodomy and drug use to concentrate on health realities.

Some prisons - particularly those in western Europe - have introduced AIDS prevention measures. But the majority are either unwilling or unable to do so.
