BCX-34 is a small-molecule drug that modulates the proliferation of T cells. Based on preclinical studies, scientists at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and BioCryst theorize that BCX-34 may reduce HIV load in the bloodstream by inhibiting the replication of infected T cells.
The study, conducted under Michael S. Saag, M.D., UAB, is designed to obtain safety, pharmacology, and biological data.
