TB Treatment in HIV+ to Be Addressed in Fall Meeting

The controversial issue of treating tuberculosis in HIV infected patients will be the subject of a September meeting sponsored by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Research and Evaluation Branch.

The meeting will bring together investigators and experts on tuberculosis and HIV to consider recent research findings in this area, according to a report published in the CDC's TB Notes (No 1, 1997).

While CDC has recommended that HIV positive patients with drug-susceptible tuberculosis be treated with the standard six-month short-course regimen, many providers prescribe nine months to a year of treatment.
