"Vaccination Against SIV in Macaques - Implications for HIV."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Keystone Symposia on Molecular and Cellular Biology entitled AIDS Pathogenesis, sponsored by Abbott Laboratories and the Director's Sponsor Fund, held April 8-13, 1997, in Keystone, Colorado, "Inactivated virus, virus subunits or live attenuated virus can induce protection against challenge with pathogenic virus in the SIV macaque model. Macaque studies have revealed particular advantages and significant limitations in each approach. Inactivated virus vaccines induce potent protection against SIV infection but the protection is mediated by antibody responses to host cell components within the vaccine which are capable of lysing...
