Researcher Giorgio Mancino and colleagues suggest that infection with M. tuberculosis increases the efficiency of HIV viral transmission from infected monocyte-derived macrophages (MDMs) to T cells ("Infection of Human Monocytes with Mycobacterium tuberculosis Enhances HIV-1 Replication and Transmission to T Cells," Journal of Infectious Diseases, June 1997;175:1531-1535).
