 M. bovis Responsible for Suspected TB in AIDS Patients

Mycobacterium bovis was responsible for a nosocomial multidrug-resistant outbreak of suspected tuberculosis among AIDS patients.

"To our knowledge this is the first characterization at the molecular level of a multidrug-resistant M. bovis outbreak in a hospital," researcher Jesus Blazquez and colleagues wrote ("Genetic Characterization of Multidrug Resistant Mycobacterium Bovis Strains form a Hospital Outbreak Involving HIV Positive Patients," Journal of Clinical Microbiology, June 1997;35(6):1390-1393).
