Homeless AIDS Patients Should Have Access to Protease Drugs

The HIV infected urban poor should be given access to protease inhibitors, said a group of University of California at San Francisco researchers specializing in studies of the homeless and marginally housed.

Many homeless can adhere to the complex treatment regimens required and not to make them available would be discriminatory, according to the researchers. To give the new therapies a chance, however, basic needs should come first in the treatment of homeless patients, the UCSF team advises.
