88-kDa Predictive of Subclinical TB in HIV+

Antibodies to 88-kilodalton antigen appear to identify HIV infected persons with subclinical tuberculosis who are at high risk of developing active disease.

Cutaneous reactivity to tuberculin is the only marker that is widely available for the detection of latent infection with tuberculosis. However, the sensitivity of the PPD skin test is substantially reduced during HIV infection, and bacille Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccination and previous exposure to other Mycobacterium species can lead to false-positive reactivity.
