New Mexico Department of Health Shifts Plans for Care

New Mexico State officials have planned to focus their treatment of people with HIV or AIDS on helping them live long and comfortable lives under a revised system announced by state health officials.

Don Torres, New Mexico Infectious Disease Prevention and Control Bureau, said people with AIDS used to need help with critical care, hospitalization, and dying. These days, with new drugs called protease inhibitors on the market, people with the disease can live much longer and need help re-entering the work force, said Torres.
