HIV Increasing in Singapore: 40 New Cases in Three Months

The number of people in Singapore infected with HIV is increasing, with 40 new cases detected in three months, China's Health Ministry said.

The ministry said the number of people testing positive for HIV has increased each year since 1985, when the first case was detected in the island city-state. The ministry said 40 new cases were detected from April through June 1997, bringing the total for the first half of 1997 to 73, higher than the number of new cases reported in the first six months of 1996.
