According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the Conference on Global Strategies for the Prevention of HIV Transmission from Mothers to Infants, held September 3-6, 1997, in Washington, D.C., "Epidemiologic characteristics of HIV-1 vertical transmission have changed over time as a reflection of the general dynamics of the epidemic. We reviewed some of these factors using data from 262 infants born to 237 HIV-1 infected women, who delivered at Hospital Clinic i Provindal in Barcelona, from 1/1/1987 to 6/30/1996.
