Most U.S. Adults Support Programs to Prevent HIV Transmission

An overwhelming number of Americans support lifting a ban on federal government HIV prevention money being spent on needle exchange programs, a drug policy research institute said.

The Lindesmith Center quoted a public opinion poll conducted in September 1997 when U.S. House and Senate negotiators agreed to prohibit the U.S. Health and Human Services Department from supporting needle exchanges until the end of March 1998.
