"Immunization of Plasmapheresis Donors with a Cytomegalovirus Vaccine Composed of gB Glycoprotein and MF-59 Adjuvant."

According to an abstract submitted by the authors to the 37th ICAAC, held September 28 - October 1, 1997, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, "Human cytomegalovirus (hCMV) is a significant pathogen in immunocompromised patients such as organ transplant recipients and AIDS patients. Immunoglobulin therapy for hCMV has been successful but has been limited by the antibody titer of plasma donors screened for natural infection. In order to facilitate the preparation of polyclonal immunoglobulin with high hCMV antibody levels, trials have been initiated in which the Chiron gB/MF-59 CMV vaccine (100 (mu)g antigen) has been administered to healthy CMV seropositive plasma donors.
